Parents with Special Needs Children
Seminar
September 30th, 2008
Grace International School
7 p.m. Multipurpose room
"A Hope-Filled Look
Inside Our Child with a Disability"
Our Children who have disabilities
are amazing people. They have challenges and they have unusual
abilities, all of which make them complex, unique and
wonderfully "differently able bodied" persons. Our speaker has
served for 13 years as a chaplain to Hope Network, one of the
largest Christian networks of services in the State of Michigan
for men and women who have disabilities, and their families. He
and an attorney ran that agency's "Community Partnership Center"
which provided a wide range of services to help people think
"outside the box" regarding the special needs of people like
your child. His book Parables of Hope sensitively shares the
stories or parables about his friends with disabilities and the
life lessons and hope they taught him. His insights will provide
a fresh look into the strengths, the struggles, the needs, and
the contributions of a person like your child with a hidden or
obvious disability.

Parent's Alcohol and Drug Workshop
October 7th, 2008
The Well Member Care Center
7 p.m. Second floor conference room
"Drug Proofing our Kids"
Every parent wants to protect
his/her child from the problems of drug and alcohol abuse. But
can we? What is helpful? What isn't? How can we address some of
the risks that our kids face? And what are the signs that there
are drug problems and what can we do when we spot them. Rev. Al
Hoogewind has both taught drug prevention and drug counseling
courses as well as done drug prevention in schools, and alcohol
and drug treatment with youth. In this workshop he will
seriously, yet humorously, present ways to address the scary
world of alcohol and drug abuse with youth.
