Yes, we do accept 504’s and IEP’s from outside schools. In order to help the application process go smoothly we require a copy of the current 504 or IEP, past educational testing as well as school reports/report cards to be included in the application. Acceptance is based on available educational support personnel.
Depending on the severity of the challenges, we have some informal tests that we can provide here at GIS that could give us some information on where the student is functioning. If informal tests show the student just needs a little extra help catching up then our Educational Support Department can work with the student and/or teacher to give them some tools to help. If the tests show that the students needs are more significant, then formal educational testing may be required.

Currently Enrolled Families

​Some students will receive a GAP in elementary to help support them in a particular area if they are significantly struggling. If a student has an un-diagnosed issue, the GAP will only be in place for a limited time and cannot continue into High school.
If the struggle is significant to the point that the student is 2-3 years behind in a given subject area, or the child is suffering from significant emotional problems, then the school may suggest getting the child tested. If a student is diagnosed with a disability, they will either receive a GAP or IEP depending on how significantly the disability is interfering with their academics. A student with a GAP or IEP can, with parent’s permission, take themselves off at anytime if they don’t use or don’t need the accommodations anymore.

If teachers concur, them next steps would be to try and brainstorm possible cause and some possible solutions that could help in the classroom, at home, or if necessary find outside help i.e. counselor. If the struggles continue then the parent or teacher can initiate a more formal meeting with teacher, principal, and counseling staff to document the concerns, specific struggles, and possible actions steps.
