COVID-19 Updates
The Crisis Management Team has been closely following the recent outbreak of COVID-19 in the greater Bangkok metropolitan area. During the past two days, nearly 450 new cases have been announced in Thailand, including 6 in Chiang Mai.

Five provinces have now been designated as “maximum control areas” or red zones: Bangkok, Pathum Thani, Nonthaburi, Samut Prakan, and Nakhon Pathom. At this time, the government has said that people traveling from or through these provinces over the Songkran holiday will not need to quarantine for 14 days. However, this policy is subject to change, and provincial governors are free to implement additional restrictions as they see fit to control the spread.

The CMT would like to make GIS staff and families aware that if they choose to travel outside of Chiang Mai province during Songkran break, and especially to the five provinces listed above in the Bangkok area, that there is the possibility that the Chiang Mai government could require them to quarantine upon their return. Nothing official has been announced, and families are free to travel, but should restrictions be put in place, the school will comply with any directives from the local government. For those who choose to travel, please strictly follow all local ordinances and COVID protocols to help keep our community safe.

Thank you for your understanding as we continue to monitor this developing situation. Please do not hesitate to contact us at cmt@gisthailand.org if you have any questions. We wish you a safe and relaxing holiday.
